God: Is He Conservative or Liberal?
Some would say, which God are you talking about? The God of the Christian, the God of the Jew, the God of the Muslim or the God that I choose to believe in?
For the sake of finding truth, let's say, "all of the above."
Most mainstream religions (and, quite frankly most people) believe in monotheism - the belief that there is only one God. Much to the surprise of the Jehovah Witnesses, as well as the Jewish and Muslim communities, Christians also believe in only One God.
Having said that, when I use the name Jesus in this article, please don't conclude that I am only talking about the Christian faith. While I am, personally, a Christian, I am writing this article to try and bring truth - truth from One God, the God of all creation - into view.
I have found that Christians, Jehovah's Witnesses, Jews and Muslims all believe in Jesus as a prophet, they simply differ in their belief of His deity. This article is not a debate about Jesus. This article is a thought provoking post about the One True God of all humanity - no matter your religion - and His ultimate desire for this world and, especially, for human beings in particular.
As a human being on planet earth who believes that God loves all people and He wants the best for all people, I am writing this article to bring about "thought" in the minds of those who either don't practice any religion, at all; or perhaps, who do have faith in God but they have not considered the end result of God's ultimate purpose and plan - His desire for all mankind.
I hope that whether you are a Christian, Jew, Muslim, or of some other faith, you will think soberly about the content of this article before concluding your opinion of what you believe to be the remedy for the evils of society.
Here is my article...
~~~~~~~~~~~
Jesus (whether you believe in him as prophet or as deity) liberally loves all people but He conservatively hates sin and hypocrisy. His life on earth was a visual demonstration of God’s will.
Jesus never condemned the humble, nor turned His back on broken humanity. He did, however, openly condemn those whose “motives” were wrong.
Jesus never condemned the humble, nor turned His back on broken humanity. He did, however, openly condemn those whose “motives” were wrong.
In fact, in Matthew 21, Jesus angrily overturned the tables of those who were selling doves to be used in sacrifices at the temple. In this same chapter He also spoke a curse onto a fig tree because it did not produce fruit for Him. Again, in Matthew 23, we see Jesus openly condemning hypocrisy and even going so far as calling the teachers of the law and the Pharisees (religious leaders) "snakes and a brood of vipers."
Jesus would look straight through a person to expose the heart (the root) of the matter.
Everything that Jesus did was the will of God.
God is the same from Genesis to Revelation of the Holy Bible.
For the Christian, Jesus did not come to condemn the law but to fulfill the law. Nonetheless, the law is still God’s standard, because without the grace of God - (for the Christian, the blood of Jesus that only covers humble hearts of repentance) - the law remains in effect.
Satan, himself, tried to use the Word to tempt Jesus. But, because Jesus knew the meaning of the Word better than Satan, Jesus could not be led astray.
In fact, all faiths who believe in the account of the Garden of Eden should be able to easily see how the devil twisted God's Word against Eve when the serpent said, "Did God really say that you would surely die?" The deception was to create confusion, doubt, justification and rationalization in Eve's mind so that she would truly believe (at least for the moment) that it was okay for her to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, although God had clearly said earlier that it was forbidden. Eve probably had a sense of peace (although it was not true peace) when she made the decision to eat of the fruit.
The devil (you might think of him as an evil force) has been twisting God’s Word in the minds of all humanity since the Garden of Eden. Satan (the devil - the worker of evil) is a master deceiver and he is attempting to twist God's Holy Word, still today, in the minds of any human being who does not fully understand the character of God as both Loving and, yet, a Righteous Judge.
God loves people. His judgements are always for the purpose of turning sinful humanity back to Himself in truth and righteousness.
The wages (penalty) of all sin is death.
God does not want humanity to die mentally, emotionally, spiritually or physically - not individually, or as a family, place of worship, community, state or nation. (Hence, heaven is the ultimate escape from death. I call the way to heaven The Remedy for the wages of sin.)
Unfortunately, because all of humanity lives in a sinful world, we will all die (from this earth) one day - unless Jesus, Messiah comes back before that day comes.
For a moment, let's compare sin to cancer. Cancer secretly works, destroying good cells and overtaking body tissue with bad cells. Like cancer, you don’t always see sin or feel sin until it is too late.
For a moment, let's compare sin to cancer. Cancer secretly works, destroying good cells and overtaking body tissue with bad cells. Like cancer, you don’t always see sin or feel sin until it is too late.
Much like sin, oftentimes radical measures must be taken in order to eradicate cancer. Initially, these uncomfortable, painful, radical, cell-killing procedures can seem much worse than the cancer itself; but, the end result is intended to bring health and healing to the patient as well as the family members who have been traumatized by the secret mission of cancer.
In the same way, God will use seemingly radical measures, radical people and radical judgements to eradicate the sin that is ultimately killing humanity. His end result is righteousness, peace, joy, health, healing, prosperity and love.
In the same way, God will use seemingly radical measures, radical people and radical judgements to eradicate the sin that is ultimately killing humanity. His end result is righteousness, peace, joy, health, healing, prosperity and love.
In fact, God will even use people who have a form of godliness, people who are new converts, people of opposing faiths, and those who don't know or believe in Him, at all, to accomplish His divine plan for all of humanity.
Yes, the God of all creation will use circumstances, situations, governments and kings to accomplish His ultimate plan.
He is a loving, yet righteous, judge. He does not wink at rebellion, wrong motives, deceived hearts nor twisted scripture (those who twist His Holy Word to fit their own agenda).
With God - Who is the creator of the universe and the One who allows us to breathe the breath of life...
Right will always be right.
Wrong will always be wrong.
So when it comes to truth, it really doesn’t matter how we view God, it only matters Who He is.
He is.
God.
Christian, would you honestly say that Jesus would confirm the sinful behavior of a people group as the standard for a community?
Those of any belief, would you honestly say that “your God” (whatever religion you practice) would want humanity to be broken, rebellious, confused, law breaking or manipulative for the sake of appeasing human weaknesses?
As a person with common sense, do you honestly believe that a band-aide can fix a broken bone?
Citizen, can you honestly say that skin color, gender, personality or political party is not a factor in your zeal for promoting your opinion of how government should rule?
We should all agree that God loves all people in every corner of the world because for us to judge God's love for any other race of people, we place ourselves on the throne and say that we are God.
We should all agree that doing things the right way ultimately gives God glory and brings all of humanity from all parts of the world into truth and righteousness which ultimately brings peace, joy, health, healing, stability, harmony, prosperity and well-being to everyone.
PS - The religions that I listed all agree on the fundamental definition of SIN. So, let's not use that as a crutch for justifying the twisted truth that the enemy of humanity has whispered into our ears.
We can choose to label sin as sickness, how God made me, disease or even our personal belief system; but, the fact still remains that God is the final judge of all creation and we will all die one day to face Him.
We can choose to label sin as sickness, how God made me, disease or even our personal belief system; but, the fact still remains that God is the final judge of all creation and we will all die one day to face Him.
Even if you choose to believe that God does not exist, you have an inner knowing of right and wrong. And friend, if any of the religions in the world who believe that there is a God are right about His existence and His standard, you will not have a choice once you die. It will be too late to change your mind.
What we choose to believe carries no weight in the quest for TRUTH.
Truth is God.
God is truth.
God is truth.
Stand Firm to the End
Read this entire text...
Verse 7-8 says, If you hear God's voice, do not harden your hearts in rebellion as the children of Israel did at Meribah in their day of testing in the wilderness. (Deborah's paraphrase)
In reading Numbers 20:1-5 and 10-13, we find that God allowed the Israelites to be tested in the wilderness. This testing was not because God needed to know how the Israelites would respond to adverse circumstances, but rather, so that the Israelites would know what was in their own hearts.
Our sinful nature is always revealed at our point of crisis, and so, God uses these adverse situations to grow our faith. These times of testing will ultimately lead us to be progressively changed for the better, or lead us to turning our back on God - depending on our character and the truth about our faith in God's Word.
The Lord already knows our commitment level, but He wants us to see for ourselves just how much we really trust Him. God's Word will always be tested in our hearts so that "we" will know and understand the validity and power of God love. God always proves Himself in times of testing if we will just trust Him and believe!
So, once again, the Israelites were complaining to Moses and Aaron. Yes, they needed water, but they were also bent on having an attitude of rebellion against God - always complaining and quarreling about the way their deliverance came. They didn't like the way that God was providing for them and they didn't respect the leadership of Moses (God's minister) in their moment of crisis.
So God told Moses to "speak" to a rock. God said He would make water flow from this rock in order to prove His power by providing for the Israelites in a miraculous way. Unfortunately, Moses, in his frustration, hit the rock instead of speaking to it. Amazingly, God's mercy still allowed the water to flow and quench their thirst, but He also told them that they would not enter the promised land because of their unbelief.
In this story, God's mercy was accompanied by God's judgement! Even though God had proven Himself over and over for forty years in the wilderness, the Israelites continuously whined and complained, and now, even their leader, Moses, had become frustrated. So, because Moses did not honor God in their sight by fully obeying, God said none of them would enter into the promised land. These were the waters of Meribah where the Israelites quarreled with the Lord and where the Lord was proved Holy among them.
When testing comes, remember, God is testing us so that we will know what is in our own hearts. God already knows.
Even when a temptation comes from a seemingly Christian source, don't be fooled. Remember, it is a test! It is a test for us to see our own wrong thinking - our own sinful heart. - Deuteronomy 13:1-3
Hebrews 3:8-9 tells us, don't be like your ancestors who tested God in the wilderness for forty years. They saw God prove Himself over and over again, and yet, they hardened their hearts in rebellion because things were not as pleasant as they expected. They were mad because God didn't do things their way and in their timing.
God is Holy. He is God. It really doesn't matter how we seek to manipulate, justify or even approve of our sin, God's Word is the ultimate standard by which all sin is judged. If we are not Christians, God has given us a conscious to show us wrong from right. But, for those of us who are Christians, the voice of the Holy Spirit is our constant guide. So, ultimately, we are without excuse.
The fullness of God's blessings will never be manifest in the lives of those who insist on being in rebellion. 1 Samuel 15:23 says, "rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft." In fact, let's look at this verse in the Amplified version..."For rebellion is as [serious as] the sin of divination (fortune-telling), And disobedience is as [serious as] false religion and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you as king." This is where God changed His mind about Saul being the King!
God's anger is released when His people continually go astray in their hearts - when they do not grow to know His ways. The Lord wants us to be progressively changed to become more like Christ. If we continually refuse to do so, there will come a time where God's mercy gives way to judgement. This is where the consequences for our sin becomes our fate. Read Hebrews 3:10-11 in the Amplified to see the example God has given to us through the Israelites journey from Egypt to the promised land.
Mark 4:17 says, "... when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately they [are offended and displeased at being associated with Me and] stumble and fall away." - (AMP)
The Lord wants us to believe Him! He wants us to trust Him! He wants us to take His Word at face value and never harden our hearts to Him. And... it's easy to believe God when things are going good, but it's hard to believe Him when our lives are a mess. So, God uses these times of testing to show us just how much we really believe Him. One of my favorite scripture verses is Hebrews 11:6 which says, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him." - KJV
So our conclusion for this lesson leads us to Jude 1. Here we see that while God is able to keep us from stumbling or falling into sin, He is also warning us to not be fooled into thinking that just because He has saved us from eternal hell, He will not also destroy us if we choose continual rebellion.
Jude reminds us of how the Lord saved the Israelites out of the bondage of Egypt, but later destroyed them because of their refusal to trust Him in the wilderness. We are also reminded that even the angels who rebelled against God were not able to keep their place of power in heaven but are now chained in darkness until the day of judgement.
We should build ourselves up (daily) by praying in the Holy Spirit if we expect to escape the snares of this world. Do not allow grumblers, complainers and those who are bent on being lustful and sensual to lure you into wavering in your obedience to the Holy Spirit and the Word of the Living God.
As Christians, we should hate sin so much that we are constantly telling the world about the wonder of God (by our actions even more so than by our mouth) and we need to understand that most people can be won to the Lord through love; but, there are some who will need to be "snatched" out of the grips of hell through the fear of God.
God is Holy. He is God!
If we are truly His, we should be progressively changed for the better. We should grow to agree with all of His precepts and all of His judgements and all of His promises. We should grow to become more like Jesus.
If we are not being progressively changed for the better (as shown by our obedience), the question remains, are we really His? The Lord says "examine yourselves" to see if you are really one of His. - 2 Corinthians 13:5
The born-again experience is a beautiful moment in time where the seed of God comes to live inside of a person. It is a moment in time where a human is recreated into the likeness of God - as God intended from the book of Genesis. True born-again humans will inherit eternal salvation with God. True born-again humans will hunger and thirst for righteousness. Their attitude toward sin is progressively changed.
Life's trials and testings will give us opportunities to to be progressively changed for the better or will to expose us as being a tare (someone who wants to be in the Kingdom but who has no depth in their knowledge or their fear of God). From life's trials, God gives us the opportunity to see for ourselves the true condition of our heart, the true condition of our faith and the true condition of our character.
God's testings will prove God's Spirit in us... prove God's love toward us... and, prove God's Word (promises) for us.
The Holy Spirit of God will empower us to STAND FIRM TO THE END.
Even so, we should never grow cold to the Holiness of God. God's standard never changes. Sin hurts. Sin thwarts. Sin perverts. Sin kills.
God is Holy. He is God. It really doesn't matter how we seek to manipulate, justify or even approve of our sin, God's Word is the ultimate standard by which all sin is judged.
LESSONS:
- Partial obedience is not obedience at all.
- Trials and testings will expose our true beliefs about God.
- Our character is more important than our comfort.
- God wants us to believe Him in all things.
- We need to examine ourselves to make sure that we are truly a born-again believer and not just someone who wants to go to heaven, who likes to hear of the goodness of God or someone who believes "in" God but doesn't really believe God.
- Don't be discouraged when testing comes from a seemingly Christian source. God will expose our wrong thinking and our sinful heart during these times.
- Eternity is forever. We should not play around with how we handle God's Word.
- We should not put banners of salvation on people we love when God is allowing them to be tested. He wants us all to know who He is, and who we are in Him. Every human being must work out their own salvation with God as their life is progressively changed for the better or as they are exposed when they turn their back from ever really knowing Him. Children cannot go to heaven on their parents faith. Husbands cannot enter heaven on their wife's faith. Wives will not see heaven just because their husband is a Christian. We must, each, stand naked and alone before God.
- True believers will repent and cry out to God when they see their own wickedness and unbelief in times of testing.
- True believers who are bent on rebellion against God risk falling into the judgement of God in this life.
- True believers will be desperate to STAY FIRM TO THE END.
- God loves us so much that He wants to prove Himself. He will always prove Himself in times of testing if we will just believe and trust Him.
Are You Growing in Christ?
]
Are you GROWING in Christ, or are you stagnant in your walk?
In order to grow, we must be “willing” to crucify the flesh, die to self and obey the Holy Spirit.
It’s a daily cleanse.
What does that look like in REAL TIME?
...
What are you listening to?
What are you watching?
What conversations are you having with friends?
How do you act outside of church?
What types of social groups do you enjoy?
What do you hunger and thirst for?
Is your motive purely to seek the heart of God, or is your motive to be known as a godly person by (church) people?
Do you practice self-control or do you indulge in whatever your friends indulge in?
Is your personal prayer life a time of self examination through the power of the Holy Spirit or a time of boldness that is void of the pursuit of holiness?
Do you LOVE PEOPLE?
People who may not look like or act like you.
People who do not believe like you.
People who annoy you.
People in your everyday life.
The fullness of God’s promises are made manifest in the lives of those who are “in Him” and “He is in them.”
Those who are obedient to The Holy Spirit.
...
These are tough truths but, none-the-less, important truths that we must embrace if we want to grow closer to the Lord.
God help us to agree with You.
Help us to seek You with our whole heart.
Cleanse Yourself.
Perfect Holiness.
Choose to say YES to God.
And... PREPARE TO RECEIVE THE PROMISES!
Miracles happen on fertile ground.
And... God speaks to those who “listen” with a humble and obedient heart.
Waiting in Good Company
I hate waiting.
But, God always delivers to those who wait in faith.
Waiting does not mean sitting idle.
It means praising, reading, praying, believing and occupying.
What is occupying?
Being a doer of the Word!
Being Kingdom Minded in your everyday life.
Continue to “do life” while waiting on God’s promise.
The Lord is faithful! He loves to perform the promises in His Word at the appointed time!
I agree, waiting is no fun.
But, doing life according to God’s Holy Word has many benefits.
And... the Lord always delivers good gifts to His children when they trust and obey.
So, hang in there!
Your blessing is in the way!
A Letter to My Brothers by Beth Moore
My traveling assistant, Sonia George, who also follows Beth Moore's Living Proof Ministry, knows me well. She understands the cry of my heart and the passion of my calling. She see's the fruit of my ministry and how God is saving souls, restoring marriages, healing hearts, transforming lives and setting the captives free. Even so, Sonia, has a close up and personal view of the the obstacles that women in ministry are required to overcome in certain circles.
On May 3, 2018, #BethMoore posted an article on her Living Proof Blog that brings a refreshing cool drink of water to women called to ministry.
Sonia emailed me a copy of Beth's article and as I read it and was refreshed.
Why?
Ministry can be lonely, challenging, and complicated in a world that so often discounts the value (and even the calling) of women.
Thank you Beth Moore for your honesty and your gift to all of us females who have been called by God.
Here is the link to her article.
BOOM! - The Gas Explosion and the Miracle
I have witnessed the miracle working power of God in a BIG WAY...
When you finally move all your furniture and belongings back into your newly remodeled home after 7 months of living in an apartment and over a year of planning, preparing and building...
Turn the gas on...
Then, BOOM!!!
No one is hurt...
Stunned, but alive.
Fire under the house, smoke billowing, smoke and fire alarms ringing loud and clear, sirens, fire trucks, water hoses, all the neighborhood watching in awe....
As I sat across the street in my neighbors grass and watched chaos, smoke, fire fighters with water hoses pointed in the front door of our brand new home with all of our stuff freshly placed inside (it’s just stuff)...
I immediately made peace with God that if we lost everything we owned, and if our newly remodeled home fell to the ground before my eyes, I held tightly to my faith that my God was still good and that He would ultimately bless us with something better in the end...
Oh, be sure the devil was chanting in my ear with a persuasive voice, “you don’t deserve to live here” and “God doesn’t want you to experience the fruit of your labor” and “you should have never remodeled your home in the first place.” The enemy was relentless in trying to convince me that his voice was that of the Holy Spirit. (That’s what he does in times of despair.)
Then, in that surreal moment in time, I watched the firemen undo the water hoses and pull back from their ready position, as their demeanor went from supercharged to relaxed...
As smoke continued to pour out of my front door, I’m wondering what has transpired inside? What has become of the back of the house, where the explosion was?
Time stood still...
A few hours later as I walk in my front door to assess the damage - there is none!
NO EVIDENCE OF FIRE ON THE INSIDE!!!!
Inside, only the faint smell of smoke and a lot of dust.
Under the house and in the area where the BOOM took place was burned insulation, a busted water pipe, and melted wires. The wood DID NOT BURN.
It was told to me that when the explosion happened under the washroom, it busted a water pipe. The busted water pipe kept the fire from spreading and actually put the fire out!
... But God!
Thanks to my brother-in-law for quickly turning the gas off. Thanks to the electrician who quickly turned the power off. Thanks be to God for His strong hand of protection!
The devil had a plan.
But, my God had a bigger plan!!!
So, today I stand amazed, thankful, tired (exhausted), at peace and excited to move into our home of 23+ years, after a long awaited revamping of every room.
Yes, the BOOM has caused an unwelcome delay. We’re not actually back in our home yet, even though we had moved everything out of the apartment and anticipated sleeping in our own bed and in our own home...
Thanks to my sister, we have a place to sleep as we anxiously await our “true” move in day.
BUT... Glory to God for sparing our lives (my Mom, my brother-in-law, the electrician, and myself)! We were all standing about 10 feet away from the gas explosion.
Glory to God for protecting our home!
In my time of reflection and prayer about this incident, the Lord reminded me of how many times I’ve had to fight the good fight of faith in order to obtain the prize. Nothing of value has ever come easy for me. There has always been a battle of some sort to overcome, whether it’s in my mind - or in reality.
Life can be tough. There are Obstacles. Delays. Disappointments. Distractions. Set-backs. Road Blocks. And Detours.
But, through it all, we must press on to believe that if God is for us, who (or what) can successfully be against us.
Nothing is too hard for God.
He is my Rock. My Refuge. In Him will I trust.
SURELY, He will deliver me from the snare of the fowler.
With long life He will satisfy me and show me His Salvation.
A friend of mine reminded me of the fact that I had written scriptures in the concrete foundation of the area where the BOOM took place. If my memory serves me right, I wrote Hebrews 11:1 (my favorite verse) in that exact spot.
“Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality--faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].” - HEBREWS 11:1 AMP
So, for those of you who may be thinking that I’ve disappeared from ministry or faded into the background in not doing my usual cadence of life, please know that I’m in the finale hours of getting my house in order as I make preparation for future assignments.
Just trying to live what I teach... God first, family second, career (even ministry) last.
And, through it all, the Lord has reminded this “type A” woman of God that I can’t save anyone. I am a human being and not a human doing. I’ve NOT, by any means, quit the ministry. I’m just in a season of preparation for great things to come!
Thank you for your prayers.
————
Psalm 91 AMP
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].
I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust [with great confidence, and on whom I rely]!”
For He will save you from the trap of the fowler, And from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you and completely protect you with His pinions,
And under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and a wall.
You will not be afraid of the terror of night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction (sudden death) that lays waste at noon.
A thousand may fall at your side And ten thousand at your right hand, But danger will not come near you.
You will only [be a spectator as you] look on with your eyes And witness the [divine] repayment of the wicked [as you watch safely from the shelter of the Most High].
Because you have made the LORD, [who is] my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil will befall you, Nor will any plague come near your tent.
For He will command His angels in regard to you, To protect and defend and guard you in all your ways [of obedience and service].
They will lift you up in their hands, So that you do not [even] strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread upon the lion and cobra; The young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.
“Because he set his love on Me, therefore I will save him; I will set him [securely] on high, because he knows My name [he confidently trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never abandon him, no, never].
“He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him.
“With a long life I will satisfy him And I will let him see My salvation.”"
Spirit of Religion
It is among us every day.
It is one of Satan's most cunning lies.
It is heavy.
It is confusing.
It steals our joy.
It smothers our childlike faith.
It silences the Holy Spirit.
It fills us with doubt.
It paralyzes us with fear.
It chokes us with unbelief.
It causes us to be prideful.
It causes us to grow cold to the things of God.
It will stunt our spiritual growth.
It disguises itself as the truth.
It boast of rules, opinions, differences, exclusions, and division among God's people.
It raises an eyebrow.
It is suspicious.
It will keep us from being an example of the gospel in the eyes of the unbeliever.
Most unbeliever's can identify this spirit immediately.
The spirit of religion has caused a lie to be the truth in the eyes of that believer.
The spirit of religion is a deadly foe to those who don't know the Word of God.
Only the pure Word of God has the power to defeat this spirit.
Only those who rightly divide the Word of God can overcome the lure of this evil spirit.
In order to stay free from this evil spirit, Christians must humble themselves, pray, get alone with God, PRACTICE LOVE, and read their Bible through the lens of childlike faith - not through the lens of religious dogma or denominational doctrine that hinders the WORLDWIDE "Body of Christ" from loving one another, respecting one another, and learning from one another.
Want to be free indeed?
Shake loose form the Spirit of Religion NOW.
Tell the enemy you will not accept his lies any more.
Remember, this spirit will attach itself to Christians at various times to try and put a damper on our faith.
It seeks to thwart the Body of Christ from advancing the Kingdom.
We need to help one another, love one another, and pray for one another to keep ourselves free from the evil lure of prideful religion that seeks to cause strife among the body.
Luke 11:42-51 AMP
42 “But woe (judgment is coming) to you Pharisees, because you [self-righteously] tithe mint and rue and every [little] garden herb [tending to all the minutiae], and yet disregard and neglect justice and the love of God; but these are the things you should have done, without neglecting the others.
43 Woe to you Pharisees, because you love the [c]best seats in the synagogues and to be respectfully greeted in the market places.
44 Woe to you! For you are like graves which are unmarked, and people walk over them without being aware of it [and are ceremonially unclean].”
45 One of the lawyers [an expert in the Mosaic Law] answered Him, “Teacher, by saying this, You insult us too!”
46 But He said, “Woe to you lawyers as well, because you weigh men down with burdens [man-made rules, unreasonable requirements] which are hard to bear, and you yourselves will not even touch the burdens with one of your fingers [to lighten the load].
47 Woe to you! For you repair or build tombs for the prophets, and it was your fathers who killed them.
48 So you are witnesses and approve the deeds of your fathers, because they [actually] killed them, and you repair or build their tombs.
49 For this reason also the wisdom of God said [in the Scriptures], ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will put to death and some they will persecute,
50 so that charges may be brought against this generation [holding them responsible] for the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world,
51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah [the priest], who was murdered between the altar and the house of God. Yes, I tell you, charges will be brought against this generation.’
