Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Bookmark and Share

The Holy Spirit is NOT:

*Skeptical
*Critical
*Suspicious
*Superstitious
*Controlling
*Prideful
*Accusational
*Irrational
*Fearful
*Manipulative
*Spooky
*Lacking in Compassion

THE MOVE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ALWAYS HINGED ON:
*LOVE
*UNITY

So, if you ever feel yourself desiring to tell someone what you think or when you desire to cast a demon out of someone, be sure to sift your intentions through God's litmus test first.

Ask yourself some questions like this:

*Will my Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, Prophecy, prayer, correction, comment, conversation or judgement bring healing or will it put negative thoughts into someone's mind that could damage their self-esteem?

*Is my "motive" for speaking into this person's life pure, loving, encouraging, and edifying?

*Has that person given me permission to speak into their life?
(Some things that God may reveal to you cannot be told.)

*Am I approaching this person in LOVE without placing condemnation upon their head?

*Am I speaking in accordance with God's promises or am I speaking out of my own past failures?!?
(ALWAYS speak according to God's promises or say nothing at all!)

*Am I bringing correction with a wrong motive and calling it LOVE?
(If you have a Spirit of Jealousy operating in your life, you may seek to correct someone and call it love when your motive is not pure. This will only bring division.)

*Do I believe that God wants to heal them, lift them up, elevate them, promote them, grow them, inspire them, teach them, etc.?
(If not, ask God to help you love that person like Jesus loves them before ever offering correction.)

*When I am praying deliverance over someone or offering godly counsel, am I rebuking the Tormenting Spirit so that the person can get free or am I rebuking the person?

*Is my intention to set the captive free or to elevate myself?

*If I have been exhausted by someone's behavior, is it time for me to shake the dust from my feet and move on?

*If someone clearly has a demon, am I willing and able to help them get free even if it means that my reputation may be on the line?

*Am I clearly seeing demonic activity or am I over-reacting and calling all ungodly behavior a demon?

*Am I giving the devil too much credit or am I rightfully dividing situations so that God can show me the spirit realm for the sake of His Kingdom coming to earth?

*Do I fully believe that God loves ALL PEOPLE and wants ALL PEOPLE to be saved, spirit-filled, delivered, healed, prospering, etc.?
(If not, ask God to increase your faith FOR OTHERS before ministering with a Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Gifts of Healing or Prophecy.)

*Am I attaching my faith to theirs?
(Some people do not believe in healing, do not want to be healed, do not think God can, or will, heal them. Some people don't believe in deliverance, don't want to be delivered, don't think that God can, or will, deliver them. Some people don't believe in prosperity, don't want to prosper, and they don't believe that God wants them to prosper. Find out what they are praying and believing God for and then PRAY FOR THEM IN AGREEMENT. If they will allow you to speak into their life, gently teach them about healing, deliverance, prosperity, and so on before praying the prayer of faith. Always agree. The Bible says where 2 or more AGREE.)

*If a situation requires an open rebuke or stern correction, is this the right environment? Is this the right time? Is this God's heart? Is this to snatch them out of harms way or is this to condemn them? Is this solely for their benefit and not for my own peace of mind?

Note:

*If someone truly needs correcting because their activity is going to bring them death, divorce, separation, humiliation, harm to the church body, shame, injury, harm to someone else, etc., seek confirmation from the Lord before approaching them with harsh judgements. Ask the Holy Spirit how you can minister in a loving way.

GALATIANS 5:13-15 (KJV)
"For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by LOVE serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt LOVE thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another."

MATTHEW 7:3-5 (NIV)
“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

MATTHEW 18:15-17 (NLT) -
Correcting Another Believer Who Sins Against You
“If another believer SINS AGAINST YOU, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back. But if you are unsuccessful, take one or two others with you and go back again, so that everything you say may be confirmed by two or three witnesses. If the person still refuses to listen, take your case to the church. Then if he or she won’t accept the church’s decision, treat that person as a pagan or a corrupt tax collector."

Celebrate Pentecost

Bookmark and Share

Have you WAITED for the Lord to baptize you with His Spirit?

Have you been BAPTIZED IN WATER after the repentance of your sin? (Acts 19:4 - John's Call to Baptism)

Have you been BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY GHOST?

Have you been endued with POWER to overcome sin and endued with POWER that supernaturally equips you for service in God's Kingdom on earth (something God does, not something man has taught you to do)?

Did you know that PENTECOST is June 4, 2017? (See dates from 2010-2025 below)

The word "Pentecost" comes from the Greek word "pentekostos," meaning "50."

In the Old Testament, the Pentecost feast took place 50 days after Passover in celebration of God’s gift for the 10 commandments to Moses.

In the New Testament, the day of Pentecost is a time of celebrating the power of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Christian church. Pentecost for the believer is 50 days after the Easter resurrection (or, 7 Sunday's after resurrection Sunday).

The Pentecost celebration also signifies freedom from the bondage of sin. Power to overcome sin. Power to live in the fullness of God's blessings. And... power to witness throughout the ends of the earth!

Did you know that over 500 people saw Jesus after He was crucified, but before He ascended? (These 500+ people saw a dead man raised to life!)

1 Corinthians 15:6 - "After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once ..."

But... even though over 500 saw this miracle (a dead man raised to life), only 120 actually WAITED on the promise that Jesus spoke of to take place in the UPPER ROOM.

Acts 1:4-5 - "And (JESUS before His Ascension), being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but WAIT for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly BAPTIZED with water; but ye shall be BAPTIZED with the Holy Ghost not many days hence."

Acts 1:15 - "And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an HUNDRED AND TWENTY)..."

So... ARE YOU one of the 380 or one of the 120?

Jesus has invited "all" believers to WAIT and be BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AND FIRE.

There is nothing spooky about receiving all that God has for you. There is nothing scary about the Holy Spirit coming upon you.

God wants us to fully surrender to His Spirit. He wants us to WAIT and/or HAVE HANDS LAID UPON US to receive this beautiful gift from above.

Acts 19:2-6 - "He (Paul) said unto them, HAVE YOU RECEIVED THE HOLY GHOST SINCE YOU BELIEVED?

And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

And he said unto them, UNTO WHAT THEN WERE YOU BAPTIZED? And they said, UNTO JOHN'S BAPTISM.

Then said Paul, JOHN verily BAPTIZED WITH THE BAPTISM OF REPENTANCE, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when PAUL had LAID HIS HANDS UPON THEM, the HOLY GHOST CAME ON THEM; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied."

~~~~~~~~~~~
Acts 1:8 - "But ye shall RECEIVE POWER, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall BE WITNESSES unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the UTTERMOST PARTS OF THE EARTH."
Acts 1:13-14 - "And when they were come in, they went up into an UPPER ROOM, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James. These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren."
Acts 2:1-4 - "And when the day of PENTECOST was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance."
Start a Fire... Fan the Flame
... The Power of the Holy Ghost
2 Timothy 1:6-7 (ESV)
"For this reason I remind you to FAN INTO FLAME the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."
Have you ever sensed that God's supernatural power seems to be missing in your day-to-day life, while others seem to get all the miracles?
Do you ever feel empty?
Maybe you feel spiritually weak; or, at times, you actually feel defeated.
If you're in need of more LOVE, more POWER and more of GOD'S SUPERNATURAL ANOINTING, it's time for you to start a fire and fan the flame!
The Holy Spirit of God is that Fire! He (the Holy Spirit) will fill you... guide you... sustain you... convict you... comfort you... heal you... teach you and anoint you!
Jesus told Nicademus, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born-again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." This means that without the supernatural born-again experience as described in 2 Corinthians 7:10, one cannot expect to experience; receive the benefits of; participate in; nor, enjoy the fullness of the Kingdom of God in the way that God desires for them.
God has His Kingdom reserved for His children - alone - and while many seek to get into His blessings through an alternate door, there is only one door that leads to salvation. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is that door. Human beings have access to the door handle that brings forth salvation only when they humble themselves and repent of all known sin with a sincere heart of godly sorrow.
2 Corinthians 7:10
"For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation..."
Upon the true conversion experience, one is supernaturally changed from the inside out, as the Holy Spirit of God takes up residence and begins to teach the new believer the ways of the Kingdom. This is the indwelling Holy Spirit of God given to everyone who becomes a born-again child of the King.
Again, the Holy Spirit will:
  • fill you
  • guide you
  • sustain you
  • convict you
  • comfort you
  • teach you
  • anoint you
But... there is more! The Lord of all heavens and earth is a God of continual growth, continual healing, continual blessings and continual revelation. In fact, it will take us all of eternity to even get a glimpse of the magnificent wonder of His unfolding splendor, wisdom, and love for His creation. He tells us in His Word that He wants to take us from glory to glory in our relationship with Him.
In the character and nature of God, and His never ending glory, the Bible teaches us how to go deeper with the Lord spiritually, physically, emotionally and mentally. One of the ways that the scriptures teach us to go deeper is in that of baptism. In the book of Acts, Jesus (during the time of His appearing after His death, but before His ascension) tells us to be baptized with water and to be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Jesus tells His disciples to "wait" on the promise of the Father and that they would receive the supernatural power needed to effectively share the Kingdom of God with the world.
Acts 1:5
"For John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost..."
Acts 1:8
"But you shall receive POWER after the Holy Ghost comes upon you... Then, you will be witnesses unto me... Throughout all the earth!"
Upon a careful study of God's Word we find that Jesus actually appeared to over 500 people after His death but before His ascension (1 Corinthians 15:3-6)! Sadly, only 120 of those five-hundred "believers" sought the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room. What happened to the other 380+ people who "saw" such an incredible miracle? They actually saw Christ alive even though they knew He was dead!
This seems to be the same consensus within the church today. Some followers of Christ want more, while the vast majority of believers are satisfied to encounter Him only once - or, at least, only once whereby they relinquish every element of human control. Yet, Jesus gave clear instructions that they were to remain in Jerusalem until they received the promise of POWER.
Jerusalem is called "the city of God" and represents the dwelling place of God. Have you been waiting in the dwelling place of God (the secret place) for more of Him?
Acts 19:2
"Have YOU received the Holy Ghost since you believed?"
If you are anything like one of the original 120 who were baptized (fully immersed) in the Holy Spirit, you might find yourself being mocked. The religious crowd that heard the 120 praising God in tongues said, "they must be drunk." At best, there will be some (even other Christians) who will think you are a little too radical and maybe even a bit crazy for diving in so deep with God. Anything other than mainstream is going to rub somebody the wrong way. Interestingly, Jesus was known for rubbing many (even the religious leaders of His day) the wrong way.
As I study the book of Acts, I find that there was always some sort of miraculous manifestation whenever new converts were baptized in the Holy Ghost. In fact, Simon (the sorcerer) was so intrigued with this manifestation that he wanted to buy it. He, like so many others, didn't realize that the gift of the Holy Spirit - with all of His power - only comes to those who seek more of Him and then determine to wait with expectation, believing for God to show up! So, what was this manifestation or evidence that that Simon saw when the apostles laid hands on believers to receive the Holy Ghost?
Acts 8
"And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, “Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 10:45-47
"And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, 'Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?'”
How does the Holy Ghost manifest Himself in your life today? Are spiritual gifts flowing through your life as described in I Corinthians 12:7–11?
The Lord wants to "set you on fire" for the sake of the Kingdom of God! He wants you to be a witness and "share" your story with everyone in your everyday life of influence. He wants you to be a light in a dark world.
But you simply cannot do this in your own strength. Even if you are a Christ follower, you are admonished by Jesus to be "baptized in the Holy Ghost." You see, the "baptism of the Holy Ghost" is what makes your words more effective. It's a mystery. But it is God's way!
Naysayers, complacent Christians, certain Bible scholars, denominational by-laws and religious leaders throughout history have spent way too much energy fighting against God's supernatural plan. The God of the universe cannot be put into a box. He cannot be fully figured out or defined. That is why He is God. He is beyond our natural intellect or human rationale.
In a day and age when the church needs the supernatural power of God to reach a liberal, legalistic, morally corrupt, spiritually confused, blind and desperate humanity - THE CHURCH NEEDS GOD'S POWER! God's supernatural power, that is. There is no program, no contemporary service, no praise band, no technology driven atmosphere and no sermon that can cut to the heart of a wicked and perverse generation without the power of the Holy Spirit. And... the Holy Spirit doesn't automatically show up just because a worship leader is energetic, the singing is incredible, the orchestra is dynamic, the band is phenomenal, the preacher is good or the congregation is mostly a born-again group. No, the Holy Spirit shows up when there is an anointing - the kind that comes from WAITING on God with a humble heart while EXPECTING Him to move in a powerful way.
Now, when the Holy Ghost shows up, He doesn't usually do things according to our organized agenda. Since God is God... He enjoys revealing Himself in all of His glory to individuals or congregations who will let go and let God. Anyone who studies their Bible for any length of time can easily see that whenever God shows up on the scene supernatural things always happen. These supernatural things can seem odd, uncomfortable and, perhaps, out of order to those who are bent on keeping God in their spiritual box of status quo. But... for those who are desperate for MORE LOVE, MORE POWER and MORE SUPERNATURAL ANOINTING from the King of Kings, the manifestation of God's supernatural disruption is exciting!
So, what about the speaking in tongues? This sounds really spooky to some - maybe even, too supernatural. But, Paul said, "I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all." So, Paul believed in speaking in tongues. He said that tongues would be a way for us to edify ourselves, and friend, we will need all the self-edification we can get when we get into the front lines of battle with God's enemy. When persecution comes, when trials come, when heartache comes, when doubt comes, when spiritual warfare seems unbearable - build yourself up in your most holy faith!
Jude 1:20
"But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,"
In an effort to bring understanding concerning why some denominations, preachers, teachers and commentaries use scripture to teach against speaking in tongues while others use scripture to explain the value of this gift, I'd like to share an analogy about traveling in a airplane.
Person #1
Has never flown in an airplane. Maybe they have never felt the need to take an airplane as a means of transportation. Or, maybe they have a fear of flying and so they say things like, "If God wants me to fly, He'll give me wings" or "I can get to where I need to go by staying on the ground." Now, if Person #1 were asked to explain what it is like to fly in an airplane, they could either say, "I don't know, because I've never flown in an airplane before" or they could say things like, "Well, it's unnecessary. I don't believe that I need to fly in an airplane to go overseas; I can just take a boat. People who fly in those things are a little cuckoo. I've been traveling for thirty years and I've never once needed to take an airplane. Ooh, you'd better be careful in that thing! It's the devils way of getting around!" While Person #1 may have some valid points about their reason(s) for choosing not to fly, their explanation is from assumption and not from "experience."
Person #2
Is a frequent flyer. They've been all over the world. To them, flying is a gift from God that they want to take advantage of; and so, they are joyful that they can see and experience His creation from another angle. Flying is costly, but to the frequent flyer it is worth every penny. If you ask Person #2 to explain what it's like to fly in an airplane, they'll speak from their "experience" and not from their excuses, assumptions or practical explanations of how an airplane works. They'll be able to help you visualize flying even before you ever decide to do so yourself. Their description is so vivid and exciting that your curiosity will be awakened!
So, which person above would you want to get information on concerning "what it is like to fly?" Naturally, you would ask Person #2. The same should be true concerning the baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of tongues (your supernatural prayer language), but for whatever reason many are listening to Person #1. Is it their own fear that brings them to accept the many reasons for not flying (not seeking God's power)?
Let me clarify that Person #1 has the right to choose whether he flies in an airplane, or not. Person #1 may actually love to travel, but just prefers to do so on the ground. In fact, flying won't make him a better person if he does, or less of a person if he doesn't. Choosing not to fly will, however, limit his ability to see things from a new viewpoint - far above the clouds!
In 1 Corinthians 14:1, Paul said we should pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts. So many Christians don't desire spiritual gifts. They are satisfied with their intellectual knowledge of God. Satisfied with church as usual. Satisfied with their reputation of high standing in Christian circles. In fact, many have been taught that it is wrong to seek after spiritual gifts because the implication is that God would be disappointed, since they are said to be by-passing Him to get to His gifts. And, quite frankly, many are even apathetic toward a lost a dying world so they have no need of supernatural power and the working of spiritual gifts in their life for the benefit of others. Have you pursued love (God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit )? Have you desired spiritual gifts?
In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul speaks of the different spiritual gifts given to believers and how each child of God has a unique anointing for administering wholeness and healing to the body of Christ. In fact, Paul says that God will divide these gifts among obedient believers as He sees fit in any given situation so that He can work miracles, signs and wonders in the behalf of those who are desperate for a touch from the Master. Through these gifts, the Holy Spirit endows wisdom, knowledge, faith, healings, the working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, different kinds of tongues, and the interpretation of tongues. The miracle working power of the Holy Ghost brings healing of body, soul and spirit, deliverance, forgiveness, restoration, wisdom, knowledge, understanding and the manifold benefits of your salvation in Christ Jesus!
It is such a tragedy for articles and commentary to go across the Internet that attempt to explain away the fascinating wonderment of a supernatural God. God cannot be contained. He cannot be fully figured out. I am always wary of anyone who claims to have God all figured out; especially when their explanations take away from His incomprehensible power and magnificent glory - rather than magnify His mysterious wonder.
Waiting for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit after you've believed, perhaps after you've been baptized in water and maybe even after you've followed Jesus already for many years (so had the disciples) is certainly a mystery. Why do you need to? Why would you want to? What should you expect? How do you know that you won't get a demon spirit instead of the Holy Spirit? S-T-O-P! God gives good gifts to them that ask (Matthew 7:11)!
Matthew 7:7-11
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give "good things" to those who ask Him!"
If Jesus said to do it, why aren't we doing it?  If Jesus said we would need God's Holy Ghost POWER to impact the world in a life-changing way, why do we continually try to find a short-cut method or a more rational means for connecting to the power source? If Paul said we need to edify ourself by praying in tongues and Jude said that we needed to build ourselves up by praying in the Holy Ghost, why don't we ask, seek and knock for this amazing worship gift that unlocks the door to the complete nine-fold spiritual gifts of 1 Corinthians 12. These gifts of the Holy Spirit are there for equipping the church to express the fullness of God's love to the world.
God will work through a believer in a given situation to demonstrate His supernatural power. Why does He choose this method? That is a mystery. But it is probably because His ways are higher than our ways! Our role is simply to accept His ways and to embrace His heavenly endowment of power through the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Nine manifestation gifts are listed in I Corinthians 12:7–11
  • Word of wisdom.
  • Word of knowledge.
  • Faith.
  • Gifts of healing.
  • Working of miracles.
  • Prophecy.
  • Discerning of spirits.
  • Divers kinds of tongues.
  • Interpretation of tongues
The bottom line is this: It is impossible to LIVE a victorious Christian life without the Holy Spirit! It is impossible for the church to express the fullness of God's love without the Holy Spirit. It is impossible to plug into the supernatural power of God without WAITING on the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Don't let religion, politics, sin, ignorance, denominationalism, doubt, people, fear, false teachings, pride or unbelief stop YOU from receiving ALL that God has for you! Once God has STARTED YOUR FIRE through saving your soul, continue to FAN THE FLAMES of the Holy Spirit by seeking, knocking, asking and WAITING with expectation to be Baptized - fully immersed in His presence, His love, His power... His Holy Spirit!
And, if you've already been Baptized in the Holy Spirit, have you been continually stirring up the gift(s) God has given you? Have you been continually re-filling your spiritual tank by reading God's Word, Praying, Worshipping and WAITING on Him with EXPECTATION and ANTICIPATION?
Start a Fire - Pray for the Holy Spirit of God to Baptize you with power from on high to unleash His spiritual gifts in your life.
Fan the Flame - Encourage yourself in the Lord as David did. When adversity strikes, refill yourself with a fresh Baptism as you dive into God's Word, Pray and WAIT on His glory with an obedient heart and a surrendered will.
The Holy Spirit is that fire that gives supernatural anointing for miracles, signs and wonders. The fire of the Holy Spirit will cause demons to flee. The fire of the Holy Spirit will bring about salvation. The fire of the Holy Spirit is the electricity of the Kingdom of God moving around the earth and giving LIFE more abundantly.
If you feel like a defeated Christian today, why don't you pray for a fresh Baptism in the Holy Ghost?
Ask the Lord to raise you up with POWER from on high!
Listen NOW to an audio message (40 minutes) with Deborah Ross...
There is a popular Christian song on the radio by a band named Unspoken called Start a Fire. The words go like this...
This world can be cold and bitter
Feels like we're in the dead of winter
Waiting on something better
But am I really gonna hide forever?
Over and over again
I hear Your voice in my head
Let Your light shine, let Your light shine for all to see
[Chorus:]
Start a fire in my soul
Fan the flame and make it grow
So there’s no doubt or denying
Let it burn so brightly
That everyone around can see
That it’s You, that it’s You that we need
Start a fire in me
You only need a spark to start a whole blaze
It only takes a little faith
Let it start right here in this city
So these old walls will never be the same
Over and over again
I hear Your voice in my head
They need to know
I need to go
Spirit won't You fall on my heart now
[Bridge:]
You are the fire You are the flame
You are the light on the darkest day
We have the hope we bear Your name
We carry the news that You have come to save
Only You can save
You Need the Holy Ghost by David Wilkerson
Hello There:  I just read this article from David Wilkerson, August 13, 1990, that I thought was very interesting.  I hope you enjoy it!
You Need the Holy Ghost by David Wilkerson 8/13/1990
Some of you have been saved for a number of years, some perhaps a year, and some just months or a few weeks. Being saved from sin is wonderful! Old things fade away - and all things become new, I am so glad you're saved!
But to be a good soldier in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ, it's not enough just to be saved. There is much more for you! You need to be baptized with the Holy Ghost!
In Paul's time, some believers didn't even know there was a Holy Ghost.  "He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him. We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost"; (Acts 19:2). These people were saved, but it is clear they were not filled or baptized with the Holy Ghost.
I believe we are saved through the power and ministry of the Holy Ghost. But Scripture tells us that in addition to this, there is also a baptizing, an infilling, a possessing that the Holy Ghost does in us! Jesus Himself did not send His disciples and followers into the world until they were baptized with the Holy Ghost. Certainly His disciples had pure hearts. They had faith to heal the sick, to cast out devils. They had the word of the Lord and already had been preaching Christ and gaining converts. They were witnesses to His resurrection. What more could there be? They were willing to die for Jesus! Wasn't their love for Him enough to send them into the world to do His work?
Beloved, none of that was enough! Clearly, there was more: "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth" (Acts 1:8).
These great apostles - this inner circle of followers who knew Him so intimately, who had done such mighty works, who had been baptized in water and fully taught by Christ - needed still to be baptized with the Holy Ghost!
"And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind.... And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:1-4).
The need for the Holy Ghost was evident after Philip went down to Samaria. He saw a great move of God there: "Then Philip... preached Christ unto them. And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.... And there was great joy in that city.... Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John" (Acts 8:5-7, 14).
God's "Holy Ghost Squad" came down! There had been signs and wonders, miracles, unclean spirits fleeing, people crying out to God. The city was full of joy because of all these things! Yet there was still more! "(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost" (Acts 8:16-17).
We have another example in Cornelius. He was a devout believer, "one that feared God with all his house... (who) prayed to God always"; and was a kind and generous man as well. He and his family were pure and holy, their hearts wholly given to the Lord. Yet his devout heart told him there was more.
Cornelius sent for Peter at the direction of an angel. When Peter arrived, he preached for a while - and suddenly the Holy Ghost fell on the people: "While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished... because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.... Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded them to be baptized" (Acts 10:44-48).
[This Scripture clearly settles the issue that water baptism is not the baptism of the Holy Ghost. "John indeed baptized with water: but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost" (Acts 11:16).]
Even after his dramatic conversion experience with Christ on the road to Damascus, Saul needed the Holy Ghost. He was hidden in a room in the city, broken in spirit and receiving a glorious revelation of Jesus Christ! God sent Ananias to him with the word that Saul was a special, chosen vessel for the Lord. Yet, still, Saul needed the Holy Ghost to fall on him:
"And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized" (Acts 9:17-18).
You Need the Holy Ghost to Help you Break with the World Once and for All! When the Holy Ghost baptizes you, He takes over! "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? (1 Corinthians 6:19).
The Holy Ghost comes to drive out all the remaining claims of the old sinful life! He purges all evil powers. He puts down all rule and authority of the enemy. He raises up a holy standard, and He notifies Satan and his demon hordes that this temple belongs wholly to Jesus! "All principalities and powers of darkness, take heed: Your claims is lost! This is my house, and I have moved in to make Jesus Lord of this body, soul and mind!"
If you have the Spirit of Truth, you will soon line up with God's Word and love to do so! He begins to reveal the mind of Christ to you. And when you read and hear the Word, you tremble and have the power to obey!
The first message He discloses is this: "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,whatsoever I have said unto you" (John 14:26).
I have often wondered how those calling themselves Christians can distort the Word of God - how they can read the clear warnings contained in the Bible and yet ignore them. They lead a double life! They invent their own standards and mix freely with the world. They are two people - split personalities. One part continues to do everything sinful and evil, while the other one says, "But that's not me. The real me loves Jesus!"
Scripture makes this division clear: "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial?... And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols?... Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you" (2 Corinthians 6:14-18). How can any lover of Jesus miss or distort this?
How can an actor and actress play in raunchy, sex-and-violence movies and say with a straight face,"God told me to"? How can Christians rent evil movies or go to filthy places and say, "I am a witness for Jesus"? It is because the Spirit of truth is not in them! They need the Holy Ghost to come in and open their blinded eyes!
Jesus said, "I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you" (John  14:16-17).
All the preaching, counseling and Bible reading you can absorb will be dead to you unless you have the Holy Ghost living in you! He makes you to understand and know it is God speaking! Some in our church here in New York have heard these words and warnings over and over again. Yet, after a year or two, they are still babies - still not separated, still half in the world. Why? It is because they don't have the Holy Ghost! He has not yet been called upon to possess the temple of their body! They still have control of their body - and they don't want to yield control to Him!
You need the Holy Ghost, for He is the Spirit of Truth who "shall teach you all things." You won't be sidetracked by a distorted, compromised gospel. "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you" (John 16:13-14).
Holy Ghost Baptism Is For You! Do you really want the Holy Ghost? Do you want Him to fall upon you and baptize you with fire? You have to be convinced this is for you. You must come to the place where you know you are nothing, have nothing and can do nothing without the power and leading of the Holy Ghost.
You must know He is still baptizing, still falling upon believers - possessing their bodies! "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call" (Acts 2:38-39).
Every hour of every day, multitudes worldwide are being baptized with the Holy Ghost! They have read of this promise in the Bible or have heard it preached. So they cried out claiming the promise, and they have been baptized!
The baptism is especially for those living in these last days. "And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh... I will pour out in those days of my Spirit" (Acts 2:17-18).
Jesus told a parable about a certain man who got up at midnight, went to a friend's house and asked for three loaves of bread (Luke 11:5-13). This parable is about the need for the Holy Ghost - about seeking, asking and knocking!
This man had been in his home when a friend arrived from a long journey and was hungry. But the man had nothing to give him. This represents a lack of power, spiritual weakness! So the man who had nothing to give went to the one who had bread.
This man who had nothing to give needed the power of the Holy Ghost. He was desperate!
Beloved, it is midnight and you have family and friends who are hungry and needy - yet in yourselves you have nothing to offer. You need the Holy Ghost! And He is yours for the asking: "How much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?" (Luke 11:13).
God wants you to live and walk in the Spirit. You should not have to run to find someone else to meet a person's need. You are called to speak the Word of God as the Spirit moves on you, and to lay hands on the sick and cast out devils just as the apostles did. We are all called to be witnesses who are full of the Holy Ghost and power!
You Must Realize You Do Not Have All Jesus Wants You to Have Unless You Are Baptized With the Holy Ghost! John the Baptist preached, "I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire" (Luke 3:16).
Beloved, the Bible makes it very clear: When Jesus comes to you, He desires to baptize you with the Holy Ghost and fire! The Holy Ghost brings fire - a red-hot, consuming love for Jesus. Why are so many believers hot one minute and then cold the next, never totally yielded, never sold out? Is it because they refuse to let Jesus baptize them with the Holy Ghost?
"When (the Holy Ghost) is come, He will reprove... of sin" (John 16:8). Could it be that these believers are not convicted because the Holy Ghost has not yet moved in - that He has never been invited to take His rightful place in them? If the Holy Ghost were in residence He would be convicting, convincing, probing - holding them to the Word. He is God's plumb line. Anything that does not measure up to Christ, He reveals - and He convicts us and empowers us to conform to His Word! Truly He becomes our Comforter in this, because as He convicts us of sin He empowers us to remove it. That is true comfort!
You Must Be Willing to Let Go of Decorum! That is Your Pride: Etiquette - Primness - Starchiness! In both the Old and New Testaments, the Holy Ghost fell upon people in the most unusual ways! He shook buildings. People's tongues began to praise Him - in new tongues. The Holy Ghost took full control!
At Pentecost he came with a mighty, rushing wind! Fire fell! "And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2;4). Can you imagine what this crowd looked like to passersby - 120 people, all preaching and praising God at the same time and in different tongues? It must have looked like drunken chaos!
When the Holy Ghost comes down, things get shaken up. "And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together: and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spoke the word of God with boldness" (Acts 4:31).
Some say, "The Spirit came down at Pentecost. We don't need to pray for Him to fall on us now." But throughout the Book of Acts, after Pentecost, the Holy Ghost was still falling on believers!
He fell at the house of Cornelius: "While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them" (Acts 10:44). Again, they spoke with tongues!
He fell at Ephesus: "The Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied" (Acts 19:6).
The Holy Ghost will never make you do anything stupid. But He will come upon you in such a way that sinners may think you are drunk! He is not welcome in many churches because He is thought to be too noisy, too upsetting, too unpredictable!
The Holy Ghost Is Received by Faith! "This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?" (Galatians 3:2). Saints, this message should ignite your faith, - and by faith you should lay hold of God's great promises! "Let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think he shall receive anything of the Lord" (James 1:6-7).
The Lord says, "Open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it" (Psalm 81:10). Praying for the gift of tongues should not be our focus; we ought to pray to be baptized in the Holy Ghost - and speaking in tongues is an expression of His indwelling.
Have you asked God for this gift? Are you seeking the Holy Ghost? Are you continually knocking? "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?" (Luke 11:13).
Simply ask and you will receive! Seek your heavenly Father for the baptism of the Holy Ghost, and He will give it to you!
Here in New York City we have come to realize our desperate need to be constantly filled with the Holy Ghost, always dependent on His power and presence, and fully trusting in His ability to do the impossible. For example, we have been led to pray for HARD CASES - praying in the Holy Ghost for the salvation of those considered too far gone to be saved: the pornographers, the drug dealers - the evil-minded big-shot business men who have lost all sense of morality.
We are witnessing great miracles as a result. The most wicked, evil-minded sinners are being strangely convicted by the Holy Ghost: and they are getting right with God.
The Holy Ghost is the HOUND OF HEAVEN, and He is hunting down sinners and the backslidden everywhere. They are falling under an incredible "misery," and are beginning to hate their sin for the first time. They are feeling an urge to seek spiritual help. That, my friends, is the powerful ministry of the Holy Ghost.
We face a mad devil on the loose in our world today. He is unleashing all the power at his command; and legions of evil powers are digging in for the final conflict with heaven. It is going to take more than the dead, powerless religion practiced by most denominations. Our modern church programs are silly - carnal - and the laughing stock of hell. Demonic hordes will simply walk all over backslidden, apostate Christians and pastors. Unclean, unholy Christians are weak, powerless and afraid of Satan's power. They can no more stop the onslaught of Satan than an ant can stop an armored tank.
But Satan cannot stand up to a righteous, Holy Ghost-filled child of God who walks in faith and obedience. Show me a truly Holy Ghost-possessed believer, and I'll show you one who puts the legions of hell to chase.
We don't need bigger churches or more Christian TV or more sophisticated religious methods! We need more Holy Ghost-baptized saints - separated and sanctified - who will live and walk and talk in the power given them! We need to be on our faces crying out to God for a fresh Pentecost: that the Holy Ghost would again fall upon us, our churches, our pastors and evangelists - and rid ourselves once and for all of everything profane and fleshly.
God, send the Holy Ghost! Fall upon us! Baptize us mightily. And send us forth against satanic strongholds with an uncompromising faith that He will prevail in our day!
